ABOUT
Women of Opera was created to celebrate, share, publish & encourage performance of operatic works written by women composers. Opera & song written by women is too often overlooked, underperformed, & forgotten. Our mission is to highlight this beautiful & well-written music by making it available to musicians, teachers & performers.

ABOUT US
Women of Opera was started by Madison Barton-Holloway in 2024. As an undergraduate student, Madison found stumbled upon Eva Dell'Acqua's "Villanelle," & for the first time in her life felt like the composer knew what it was like to be a female singer; lo & behold, Eva Dell'Acqua was a woman, a composer, & a performer -- she definitley knew what it was like to be a female singer. This realization opened up the doors to the seldom-visited world of music written by women for Madison, who started a now annual Festival of Women in the Arts at her undergraduate school.
In 2023, Madison was awarded a grant from San Francisco Conservatory of Music which allowed her to travel to 6 different cities in Europe to research & preserve operas written by women. This was the birth of Women of Opera & the beginning of a strong network of performers, teachers & musicians passionate about sharing & preserving these wonderful works written by women.
